Product Related FAQS

GENERAL

What is a good power source?

A 12V inline fuse harness directly from the vehicle battery, a properly implemented 'add a fuse' adaper and a 12V DC adapter for 12V outlets are all good power sources but are dependent on the power draw, amperage, and wattage of the product being powered

Do I need extra wire?

This is dependent on the location of your product and your power source. We do our best to accommodate a typical installation but it is always a good idea to pick up a spool of basic automotive bulk wire.

How do I attach the product to my vehicle?

All products and installations will be diffrent. In most cases, our product will come with some sort of mounting hardware whether it is 3M tape or metal brackets. When mounting your product, we always recommend test fitting your product, and starting with a clean mounting surface between 65-90 degrees F (18-32 degrees C). For more detailed information on mounting and installing your product, please consult the *Installation Instructions*

Will this drain my battery?

This is dependent on the draw of your product, but if left on long enough without a source to charge the battery (a running engine, solar panel, trickle charger) almost anything will drain a battery.

Can I operate the product when my vehicle is turned off?

This is dependent on the draw of your product, but if left on long enough without a source to charge the battery (a running engine, solar panel, trickle charger) almost anything will drain a battery - be cautious!

Can I operate the product while my vehicle is in motion?

This is dependent on not only the product, but state, municipality, or township laws. Please consult your local laws to ensure the operation of a lighted accessory while driving is allowed.

How many LUMENS is the LED product?

This is dependent on the product. Different things such as LED size, color, amount of LEDs in an array, reflector type, lens optics, all play a role in the lumen output of an LED product. Typically our packaging will display a lumen count; if there is no listing please contact our team.

How many AMPS does the LED product draw?

This is dependent on the product. Different things such as LED size, color, amount of LEDs in an array, all play a role in the amp draw of an LED product. Typically our packaging and or installation instructions will display an amperage figure; if there is no listing please contact our team.

How many Hours are your LED's guaranteed to last for ?

This is dependent on the product; typically there is an operation lifetime listed on the package. Figures can vary from 20,000 to 50,000 hours operation lifetime.

Is your LED product for interior use only ? or exterior use only ? or for both ?

Our products are usually designed for exterior or interior, or both. Packaging, water resistance, and attachment method also help determine where the product should be installed!

Are your LED's Waterproof ? or Water Resistant ? or both ?

Most of our products are waterproof to some degree. You can tell just how waterproof the product is by it's IP rating. Our product's IP rating should be listed in the product details. In general, here is what you need to know about IP ratings in regards to our products. IP = "In Protection" First Digit = Solids Protection Second Digit = Liquids Protection The higher the number, the more it protects. IP65 = Dust proof and Rain / Splash proof (Can get wet but DO NOT SUBMERGE) IP66 = Dust proof and Rain / Splash proof (Can get wet but DO NOT SUBMERGE) IP67 = Dust proof and Submersible up to 1m (3ft) IP68 = Dust proof and Submersible up to 30m (100ft)

How many AMPS does my InLine Fuse need to be for my Positive wire connection on your LED product ?

Typically we recommend 2.5 or 5 amp inline fuses for smaller draw LED products; 10, 15 or 20 amp fuses are recommended on larger auxiliary lights. Be sure to check your installation instructions!

LED STRIPS

Can I place the product in an engine bay?

We do not recommend mounting our LED strips in vehicle engine bays as they would be exposed to extreme heat conditions and moving parts that may damage the product.

Does your company carry LED strips that are 24V compatible ? OR how can I operate your 12V FLEX or MAX LED’s on a 24V power source ?

We do not carry 24V compatible LED strips and do not recommend use of our 12V LED strips on a 24V system.

How can I extend the wire length on my MultiGloz kit because my wires are too short ?

It is possible, but difficult. Each MultiGloz extension has four internal wires and these can be extended but the gauge of the wire is smaller and each extension must be an exact match. We recommend purchasing an EZLINK extension wire.

What gauge wire do your FLEX & MAX LED strips use ?

Typically, our LED strips will have 20 gauge wires.

We advise trying a try ferrite ring core RFI EMI Noise Suppressor Cable Clip

Are your LED Bars flood beam pattern or spot beam pattern ?

Typically, our LEDBars are spot beam pattern unless specified otherwise. We also cary several LEDBars with combo beam patterns (both spot and flood).

What is the diffrence between spot and flood beam patterns?

A flood beam pattern illuminates a wider area in front of you, 'flooding' it with light. A spot beam travels further and eliminates a narrow area, almost like a spot light on stage.

UTILITY AND FOG & DRIVING

How do I remove the moisture/condensation/water from the inside of my LED BAR?

In some cases you are able to pop off the front panel from an LED bar by removing the fasteners on the front plate and gently pulling the panel away from the body of the LED bar. Then, to remove moisture, take a lint-free microfiber cloth and clean the lens and gently dab at the reflector bowl. Leave in a dry and low humidity area for 24 hours to allow any residual moisture to evaporate before reassembly.

What is PurePower & TrueLumen?

All Alpena LED lights are designed for max brightness and longevity. Our extensive testing revealed after several hours of testing our LEDs operate the brightest and last longest at our optimized power design. Don't let big lumens and power numbers fool you, these lights are built to last, shine bright, and live up to our claimed output numbers for the long haul. TrueLumen+™ and PurePower+™ ensure the protection of both LED chips and internal circuitry. The product is not designed for power and output levels above these ratings. Any attempt to achieve the capable figures will result in a non-functional unit and a void warranty. For example, on our QuadFire™ PurePower+™ drives 20W capable LEDs at 16W to optimize output and longevity TrueLumen+™ optimizes output at 1500 lumens using LEDs cabable of 2500 lumens
